Marvel Announces 4 New Adult Animated Series, Including ‘Howard The Duck’

Whilst ‘The Defenders’ might be gone, ‘The Offenders’ are coming, as Marvel announces 5 new adult animated series which will stream on Hulu in the US.

The new series consist of ‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.’, ‘Marvel’s Hit Monkey’, ‘Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show’, and ‘Marvel’s Howard the Duck’. Like ‘The Defenders’, the shows will culminate in a special animated event, ‘Marvel’s The Offenders’.

“A giant head. A monkey. A tiger lady and a disco queen. And the duck. Brought together because no one else could but Marvel Television on Hulu. M.O.D.O.K., Hit Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler and Howard the Duck will form a team no one asked for — The Offenders (and wait until you see who the Team Leader is!)! We have such tremendous talent bringing amazing adult animation that’s fun, fresh and fantastic. We’re so excited for what’s to come!” commented Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television.

‘Marvel’s Howard the Duck’ comes from the pens of the legendary film-maker and comic book writer Kevin Smith with ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s Dave Willis. Trapped in a world he never made, America’s favorite fighting fowl Howard the Duck hopes to return home with the help of his unstoppable gal pal Beverly before the evil Dr. Bong can turn him the crispiest dish on the menu. Smith, Willis, and Jeph Loeb serve as Executive Producers.

‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.’, sees M.O.D.O.K, an egomaniacal Super Villain with a really big head and a really little body, struggles to maintain control of his evil organization and his demanding family. The series comes from writers Jordan Blum (‘American Dad!’) and actor/writer/comedian Patton Oswalt, with Blum, Oswalt and Jeph Loeb serving as Executive Producers.

‘Marvel’s Hit Monkey’ tells the tale of a wronged Japanese snow monkey, mentored by the ghost of an American assassin, as he cuts a wide swath through the Tokyo underworld in this darkly cinematic and brutally funny revenge saga. The show comes from writers Josh Gordon and Will Speck, with Gordon, Speck and Jeph Loeb serving as Executive Producers.

‘Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show’, sees two “woke” Super Heroes and best friends, Tigra and Dazzler, fight for recognition among powered people who make up the eight million stories in Los Angeles. The animated series comes from writers Erica Rivinoja and Chelsea Handler, with Rivinoja, Handler, and Jeph Loeb serving as Executive Producers.

These individual shows culminate in ‘Marvel’s The Offenders’, which sees M.O.D.O.K., Dazzler, Tigra, Hit Monkey and Howard the Duck are all forced to team up in order to save the world and certain parts of the Universe. Jeph Loeb serves as Executive Producer, while writers and additional Executive Producers for the project will be announced at a later point..

If you’re thinking “wait, don’t Disney have their own streaming service coming called Disney+? Why is this on Hulu?” That is due to Disney wanting to keep Disney+ a strictly PG13 platform, where as these shows clearly won’t be. It’s the same reason we’re unlikely to see any of the Netflix/Marvel shows move on to Disney+. However, as part of the Disney/Fox merger, the Mouse now has a majority share of Hulu as well, so the intention seems to be to use that for the more mature content, whilst keeping Disney+ for a younger audience.

Of course, none of this helps on this side of the Atlantic, as we don’t have Hulu in the UK. However, that hasn’t stopped Hulu shows being picked up over here, so we’ll just have to wait and see if anyone fancies some adult animated Marvel goodness. We’ll let you know if and when we hear more.
