Amy Smart & Neil Jackson Join DC Universe’s ‘Stargirl’

DC Universe has announced more casting for their upcoming series Stargirl, which includes the addition of Amy Smart & Neil Jackson.

‘Stargirl’ follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger – ‘School of Rock’) who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series.

Smart is set to play Barbara Whitmore, mother of Courtney, who, now that her daughter is grown up, is jumping back into the workforce and striving to be the best mother and provider she can be to her daughter, her new husband Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson), and her new stepson. The stepson will be played by young actor Trae Romano.

You may know Amy Smart from her roles in films such as ‘Crank’, ‘Varsity Blues’ and ‘Road Trip’. She has also appeared in the tv series ‘Justified’, ‘Scrubs’ and the US remake of ‘Shameless’.

Our old friend Neil Jackson will take an the role of an undisclosed DC character, as will newcomer Hunter Sansone, who has also been cast on the superhero series. Jackson you will know from shows such as ‘Sleepy Hollow’, ‘Absentia’, ‘Flashforward’ and ‘Upstairs Downstairs‘. He has also popped up in ‘Blindspot’, ‘The Originals’ and ‘Westworld’.

Along with Bassinger and Wilson, the new cast joins an already impressive line up of acting talent on ‘Stargirl’. JSA members include Joel McHale (‘Community’, ‘The Great Indoors’) who takes the role of Starman, Lou Ferrigno Jr. (‘S.W.A.T’) who will play Hourman, Brian Stapf (‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Valor’) as Wildcat, and Henry Thomas (‘The Haunting of Hill House’, ‘E.T.’) as Dr. Mid-Nite.

On the villain side, Joy Osmanski (‘Santa Clarita Diet’, ‘Devious Maids’) will play Tigress, whilst Neil Hopkins (‘Lost’, ‘The Good Wife’, ‘Code Black’) takes the role of Sportsmaster, with Nelson Lee (‘Ten Days in the Valley’, ‘Blade: The Series’) starring as Dragon King. Anjelika Washington (‘Runaways’, ‘Young Sheldon’) has also been cast in an as-yet-unnamed part.

Stargirl‘ will be released on DC Universe in the US on August 9th, 2019, but currently does not have a UK broadcaster. However, Netflix UK has picked up the Titans series for broadcast over here in January 2019, so it would seem possible they may go for this too. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
