Chicago Fire, Med & PD Renewed For New Seasons

Great news for fans of Chicago based procedural dramas! Chicago Fire has been renewed for Season 8, whilst spin-offs Chicago PD gets a 7th Season and Chicago Med gets a 5th Season.

‘Chicago Fire’ follows the firefighters, rescue squad and paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51 risk their lives week in and week out to save and protect the citizens of the windy city. These courageous men and women are among the elite who forge headfirst into danger when everyone else is running the other way and whose actions make the difference between life and death. Police drama ‘Chicago P.D.’ follows the men and women of the Chicago Police Department’s elite Intelligence Unit combating the city’s most heinous offences – organised crime, drug trafficking, high-profile murders and beyond. Over on ‘Chicago Med’ we see the day-to-day chaos of the city’s newest state-of-the-art trauma centre and into the lives of the courageous doctors, nurses and staff who hold it all together.

“We remain in awe of the job Dick Wolf, our producers, casts and crews do in creating some of the most compelling television today,” commented Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming at NBC Entertainment. “The Chicago franchise is a linchpin of our schedule and we’re thrilled that audiences have embraced our Wednesdays with such incredible passion for these shows and characters.”

The renewal doesn’t come as a huge surprise given all 3 “Chicago” dramas are delivering their most-watched seasons ever, with “Chicago Med” averaging a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.4 million viewers overall in “live plus seven day” averages from Nielsen Media Research, “Chicago Fire” at a 2.1 in 18-49 and 11.7 million viewers and “Chicago P.D.” earning a 2.1 in 18-49 and 11.1 million viewers.

Of course, in the UK, fans still have the annoying issue that all 3 shows air on different broadcasters at different times of the year, meaning none of the crossovers line up correctly. Sky Witness are currently airing ‘Chicago Fire’ with Universal TV showing ‘Chicago Med’. Always last to the party is ‘Chicago PD’, which likely won’t premiere until the Summer on 5USA. We will update you when we get a UK premiere date.

First and foremost, great news that all three shows have been renewed (and early-ish, instead of leaving it late to announce the futures of each show). Just hope now that NBC renew Law & Order: SVU.

Season 4 of Chicago Med resumes this coming Sunday night, and maybe it’s a coincidence, but the episode on this Sunday aired in the States on the same night as the new episode of Chicago Fire on Sky Witness this Friday night. So in the UK with those two shows in the One Chicago universe, they’re around about the same point in the current season.

It would be great to be a fly on the wall in Channel 5’s TV scheduling office. If it had been known a few years ago what would happen with when Chicago P.D. was going to start on 5USA, another UK channel should have been given first refusal.
