StarzPlay UK has picked up Hulu’s true crime series ‘The Act‘ the Amazon add-on channel announced today, and will premiere Season 1 in June 2019.
‘The Act’ is a seasonal anthology series that tells startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime stories. Season 1 follows Gypsy Blanchard (Joey King – ‘The Kissing Booth’), a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother, Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette – ‘True Romance’, ‘Medium’, ‘Escape at Dannemora’). Her quest for independence opens a Pandora’s box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder.
Joining King and Arquette in the series are Chloë Sevigny (‘Bloodline’, ‘American Horror Story’), AnnaSophia Robb (‘The Carrie Diaries’, ‘Freakshow’) and Calum Worthy (‘Austin & Ally’, ‘American Vandal’). The series comes from ‘Channel Zero’s Nick Antosca, who serves as showrunner alongside journalist, critic and screenwriter Michelle Dean.
For those of you confused as to what is StarzPlay, it is an addition “add-on” channel you can get via Amazon Prime Video and Virgin Media. This as an additional service to the main Amazon & Virgin offering, and costs £4.99 a month. The channel is also home to Stephen King multiverse drama ‘Castle Rock‘, the Brendan Gleeson/Harry Treadaway series ‘Mr. Mercedes‘, and JK Simmons sci-fi series ‘Counterpart‘, so now is an excellent time to subscribe.
