‘Swamp Thing’ Is Already Cancelled After 1 Season…

Well, that didn’t last long… It seems DC Universe has already cancelled Swamp Thing after only 1 episode has aired on the US streaming service…

It appears that the cancellation has been caused by a number of issues. Firstly, the completion of AT&T acquiring DC’s parent company Time Warner/WarnerMedia, and the new bosses not being keen on the series. Secondly, there appear to have been production issues in Season 1 which led to the episode order being cut from 13 to 10. The third issue was rumoured to be the old “creative differences” problem. This time between DC Universe and the series creators, with the creators wanting something more “horror genre”, whilst DC wanted something more “procedural”.

It is rather surprising that DC Universe decided to pull the plug on the series so early. ‘Swamp Thing’ has been reviewed generally extremely well by critics, and fans seem to love it, so it is a puzzling choice for the fledgeling streaming service, which is less than a year old. At the moment, there is no official word from DC Universe, but multiple sources are saying that the series will not be back for a 2nd Season.

‘Swamp Thing’ followed CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed – ‘Gotham’, ‘Teen Wolf’) who returned to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland (Andy Bean) only to have him tragically taken from her, but as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes. Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous – and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all, but has become Swamp Thing (Derek Mears).

The cast also included Ian Ziering (‘Sharknado’), Kevin Durand (‘The Strain’), Will Patton (‘Falling Skies’), Jeryl Prescott (‘Ray Donovan’), Jennifer Beals (‘The L Word’) and Virginia Madsen.

Swamp Thing is currently without a UK broadcaster (and seems unlikely to get one now)… If you’re in the US, All 10 episodes of ‘Swamp Thing’ will air on DC Universe. Members can watch a new episode every Friday through the finale on Aug 2nd.
