Chiwetel Ejiofor, Harry Melling & Veronica Ngo Join Netflix’s Adaptation Of Graphic Novel ‘The Old Guard’

Netflix has cast Chiwetel Ejiofor, Harry Melling & Veronica Ngo in their upcoming movie adaptation of Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández’s graphic novel ‘The Old Guard’ it has been announced today.

Based on the graphic novel series created by author Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández, ‘The Old Guard’ tells the story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is probably best known for his Academy Award Nominated role in ’12 Years a Slave’, but more recently has starred as Mordo in ‘Doctor Strange’, along with popping up in ‘The Martian’, ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’, and soon to be voicing Scar in the “live action” ‘The Lion King’. He was also, of course, The Operative in ‘Firefly’ movie ‘Serenity’.

Veronica Ngo has starred in ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny’, along with ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ where she played Paige Tico, older sister to Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico. She also popped up in Netflix’s ‘Bright’.

Harry Melling played Dudley Dursley, the obnoxious cousin of Harry Potter in the movie franchise… Although, as you can see from the image above, you probably wouldn’t recognise him now! More recently he has starred in the Coen brothers ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’ for Netflix.

The trio joins the previously announced cast of Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts and Luca Marinelli.

The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (‘Love & Basketball’, ‘Beyond The Lights’) who is also adapting the script alongside novel author Greg Rucka. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger serve as producers for Skydance Media, along with Beth Kono and AJ Dix for Denver and Delilah Productions. Marc Evans and Charlize Theron also produce, with Stan Wlodkowski and Greg Rucka as exec producers.

‘The Old Guard’ is currently filming in the UK, so will presumably premiere in 2020. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
