SDCC: First Trailer For ‘Top Gun Maverick’ Flies Onto The Internet

by Dave Elliott

Tom Cruise feels the need… the need for speed, once again, as he surprised SDCC visitors yesterday with a trailer for ‘Top Gun Maverick’ in Hall H.

The long-awaited sequel to the smash hit 1986 film sees Cruise return as legendary Captain Peter “Maverick” Mitchell. Set 34 years after the events of the original film, Mav is the new flight instructor of Top Gun. One of his first students is Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (played by Anthony Edwards), Mav’s old partner who was killed in the first film. As you can see in the trailer, Maverick is seen as something of a dinosaur, who refuses to move up the ranks.

The movie also stars Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris.

‘Top Gun Maverick’ comes from Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Jerry Bruckheimer Films in association with Tencent Pictures. Joseph Kosinski (‘TRON: Legacy’, ‘Oblivion’) directs, with Tommy Harper, Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger serving as exec producers.

‘Top Gun Maverick’  is set for release, 16th June 2020.
