SDCC: First Trailer Lands For ‘Snowpiercer’ Series, Coming To Netflix UK In 2020

by Dave Elliott

US Network TBS took to SDCC to release the first trailer for their upcoming  Snowpiercer series, which will air on Netflix internationally.

Based on the 2013 movie, the series is set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, and centres on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation.

As a number of people have been noting online, the looks very much to stick to the plot points of the movie, but as this isn’t a continuation but a remake, that makes sense as a place to start.

Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly (‘A Beautiful Mind’) and Tony Award-winner Daveed Diggs (‘Hamilton’, ‘Black-ish’) star in the futuristic thriller alongside Emmy-nominee Alison Wright (‘The Americans’), Mickey Sumner (‘Frances Ha’, ‘Battle of the Sexes’), Susan Park (‘Ghostbusters’), Iddo Goldberg (‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’), Katie McGuinness (‘Dirty Filthy Love’), Tony Award-winner and Grammy-nominee Lena Hall (‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’), Annalise Basso (‘Bedtime Stories’), Sam Otto (‘Jellyfish’), Roberto Urbina (‘Narcos’), Sheila Vand (‘Argo’) and Jaylin Fletcher (‘Saturday Church’). Rowan Blanchard (‘Girl Meets World’) has been elevated to series regular for Season 2.

Award-winning writer and producer Graeme Manson (‘Orphan Black’) is the showrunner and he will begin writing Season 2 in June this year.  In the US, the show was originally ordered by the network TNT but has now been shifted across to its sister network TBS, who, up until now, has mainly been known for comedy, but is branching out into drama programming.

Snowpiercer is due to premiere on TBS in the US in Spring 2020. Internationally Netflix has the rights, so it should also land in Spring 2020 in the UK.
