US Network FX Renews ‘Snowfall’ & ‘Atlanta’ For 4th Seasons

US network FX has handed out 4th Season renewals to both John Singleton’s acclaimed drama Snowfall and Donald Glover’s award-winning comedy Atlanta it has been announced.

‘Atlanta’ is created by Donald Glover, and follows two cousins as they work to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. The renewal comes after only 2 Seasons have aired, with the eight-episode 3rd and 4th Seasons due to begin shooting in Spring 2020. It seems FX is keen to make sure they can grab Glover to shoot as much as possible between his myriad of other projects!

Through its first 2 Seasons, Atlanta won 5 Emmy Awards, 2 Golden Globes, 2 AFI awards, along with a Peabody, PGA, WGA, TCA, NAACP and Critics’ Choice Awards.

“What more can be said about Atlanta than the critical acclaim and accolades that Donald, Paul, Dianne, Stephen and Hiro have earned for two exceptional seasons of what is clearly one of the best shows on television,” commented Eric Schrier, President, FX Entertainment. “This group of collaborators and cast have created one of the most original, innovative stories of this generation and we are proud to be their partners.”

Season 2 of ‘Atlanta’, aka “Robbin’ Season”, saw the group work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. Earn Marks (Glover) is a young manager trying to get his cousin’s career off the ground. Alfred Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) is a new hot rapper trying to understand the line between real life and street life. Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) is Alfred’s right-hand man and visionary, and Van (Zazie Beetz) is Earn’s best friend and the mother of Earn’s daughter.

Created by John Singleton (who sadly passed away in April this year) with Eric Amadio and Dave Andron, ‘Snowfall’ is set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it.

“Snowfall has continued its creative leap forward [in Season 3] with the hard work and contributions of John Singleton and the brilliant performance of Damson Idris,” said Nick Grad, Co-President, Original Programming, FX Entertainment. “We are grateful to Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Michael London, Trevor Engelson and Walter Mosley for honouring John’s legacy through their commitment to building on the artistic excellence of Snowfall with a fourth season on FX.”

The 3rd Season, which we’re expecting to land on BBC Two in the Autumn, moves things to the summer of 1984. Crack cocaine is spreading like wildfire through South Central Los Angeles, continuing its path of destruction and changing the culture forever. Police are waking up to this growing epidemic, and Sergeant Andre Wright (Marcus Henderson) has set his sights on budding Kingpin and next-door neighbour Franklin Saint (Damson Idris) and his people. While local law enforcement fights to stem the tide, Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson) and the CIA are working hard to make sure the flow of cocaine into LA doesn’t stop. To continue funding the war against communism in Central America, Teddy will need to find new routes into the United States using Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) and what’s left of the Villanueva family. As the stakes and losses continue to mount our players truly begin to understand the destructive force they have set in motion and must reexamine their own motivations and the cost of continuing forward from here.

Atlanta‘ premieres on FOX in the UK, with a second airing later on BBC Two, and the 3rd Season is expected to air in 2020. ‘Snowfall‘ premieres on BBC Two in the UK, with Season 3 expected to arrive in Autumn 2019. Both shows premiere on FX in the US.
