Sky has released a teaser trailer for their follow up to 2016’s ‘The Young Pope’, which sees Jude Law and John Malkovich star in ‘The New Pope‘… And they seem to have taken the teaser part of the trailer to the extreme, as Law is showing off Pius XIII’s “assets”, wearing a swimsuit which isn’t leaving a lot to the imagination!
Written by Paolo Sorrentino with Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises, the drama sees Law reprise his role as Lenny Belardo, aka Pius XIII, the first American Pope in history. He is joined by the legendary John Malkovich, who would seem to have a big role in the show, but his character details have yet to be revealed.
All 9 episodes are directed by Paolo Sorrentino. Returning cast from ‘The Young Pope’ includes Silvio Orlando, Javier Cámara, Cécile de France, Ludivine Sagnier and Maurizio Lombardi. The new cast for the limited series includes Henry Goodman, Ulrich Thomsen, Mark Ivanir, Yuliya Snigir and Massimo Ghini, alongside Sharon Stone and… Marilyn Manson? Yep, I did read that correctly, that’s what the press release says!
‘The New Pope’ is produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani for Wildside, which is part of the Fremantle family of producers, and co-produced by Haut et Court TV and The Mediapro Studio. Fremantle is the global distributor for the drama. The series is a Sky, HBO and Canal+ co-production.
‘The New Pope‘ hasn’t been given a premiere date yet, but is “coming soon” (i.e. at some point before the end of the year) on Sky in Italy, the UK and Germany. It will air on HBO in the US.
