‘Grace And Frankie’ Renewed For A 7th & Final Season

Grace And Frankie will become Netflix’s longest-running original series, as the streaming service renews the comedy for a 7th and final season. Season 6 has yet to be broadcast, and is expected to air in January 2020.

The comedy sees Jane Fonda (Grace) and Lily Tomlin (Frankie) star as two women whose lives are turned upside down when their husbands reveal they are gay and leave them for each other. Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie form an unlikely and unbreakable bond and face their uncertain futures head-on, hand-in-hand. Together with their ex-husbands and children, they discover the true definition of “family,” with laughter, tears and plenty of mood enhancers along the way.

“We are both delighted and heartbroken that Grace and Frankie will be back for its seventh, though final, season,” commented stars Fonda and Tomlin in a statement. “We’re so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation. And their kids, and amazingly, their kids as well. We’ll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we’ll still be around. We’ve outlasted so many things—just hope we don’t outlast the planet.”

The show comes from Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris and also stars June Diane Raphael, Baron Vaughn, Brooklyn Decker and Ethan Embry as the duo’s children. Season 5 saw the addition of RuPaul in a guest-starring role as Benjamin Le Day, a formidable and quick-witted adversary who faces off with Grace and Frankie.

“It’s thrilling and somehow fitting, that our show about the challenges, as well as the beauty and dignity of aging, will be the oldest show on Netflix,” added co-creators and showrunners Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris.

‘Grace and Frankie’ has landed multiple Emmy and SAG nominations over its 5 season run, although has yet to actually manage to bag the trophy. Both Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are again nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series in the SAG awards this year. Hopefully, 2019 will be their time!

“Since its premiere in 2015, Grace and Frankie has expertly and hilariously demystified the experience of growing older and given a voice to the fastest-growing segment of our population,” said Netflix’s VP of Original Series Cindy Holland. “Jane, Lily, Sam, and Martin have become role models for fans that span generations around the world, and we are so proud to have been a part of the show’s journey from day one. A special thanks to Marta, Howard, and the team at Skydance, who have been superb partners every step of the way.”

Grace And Frankie‘ Season 6 will premiere in January 2020 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
