Sky Atlantic has set an October premiere date for Damon Lindelof’s much anticipated Watchmen series it has been announced today.

Set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws, the ‘Watchmen’ series embraces the nostalgia of the original Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ groundbreaking and seminal graphic novel, while attempting to break new ground of its own.

The impress cast includes Jeremy Irons (‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’) who is believed to be playing Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, Jean Smart (‘Legion’) as FBI Agent Blake, Tom Mison (‘Sleepy Hollow’), Regina King (‘The Leftovers’), Don Johnson (‘Miami Vice’), Tim Blake Nelson (‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’), Louis Gossett Jr. (‘Hap and Leonard’, ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’), Adelaide Clemens (‘Rectify’) Frances Fisher (‘Masters of Sex’), Jacob Ming-Trent (‘SuperFly’) and Andrew Howard (‘Hell on Wheels’).

Whilst the exact plot of the drama has not been revealed, the recent trailer (above) did give a few hints. There seems to be a movement which has risen up in the memory of Rorschach, complete with black and white masks. Nite Owl’s Owlship makes an appearance, although we don’t yet know who is piloting it – has someone new taken the mantle of the owl? And some glimpses of everyone’s favourite naked, blue, nuclear-powered character, Doctor Manhattan, who can be seen hanging out on Mars… Although that shot at the end seems to imply he might not be staying there…

Watchmen‘ Season 1 premieres Monday, 21st October 2019 on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV (exact time TBC). HBO airs the drama on Sunday, October 20th, at 9pm in the US.
