Additionally, we have an exclusive interview with Carl Thiel, composer of Netflix’s upcoming anime series ‘Seis Manos‘, which premieres worldwide on 3rd October 2019.
Set in Mexico in the 1970’s era, ‘Seis Manos’ centres on three orphaned martial arts warriors who join forces with a DEA agent and a Mexican Federal to battle for justice after their beloved mentor is murdered on the streets of their tiny border town. The series comes from Powerhouse Animation (‘Castlevania’) and Viz Media, and features the voice cast of Danny Trejo (‘Machete’), Mike Colter (‘Luke Cage’), and Vic Chao (‘Miss Congeniality 2’), along with Angélica Vale and Jonny Cruz.
Carl Thiel is an award-winning composer and producer who was raised in Mexico City and has worked on a huge range of projects, many collaborating with director Robert Rodriguez, including ‘Machete Kills’, ‘Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For’, ‘From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’, the documentary ‘Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy’, and Tim Allen’s series ‘Last Man Standing’. Carl has received multiple accolades, including a Latin Grammy nomination and four ASCAP Film & TV Awards.
As composer on ‘Seis Manos’, Carl need to find a way to blend together Chinese, Mexican, and 70s musical elements to bring the anime series to life. In the interview, he talks about his approach to the project, including acquiring a guzheng harp to inspire the score for the show… Which also meant learning how to play it!
