Netflix Releases New Teaser For ‘The Crown’ With Olivia Colman As Queen

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has released a new little teaser for The Crown‘ Season 3, premiering Sunday, 17th November 2019, which focuses on Olivia Colman as HRH Queen Elizabeth II, approving her new stamp portrait.

‘The Crown’ tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.

As you will probably be well aware by this point, the cast for the drama is being switched up every two years, with new, more age-appropriate actors, stepping into the main roles. The little teaser above is a lovely nod to the cast change, as the Queen is approving the new “settled sovereign” look on the stamp.

This season sees Olivia Colman as HRH Queen Elizabeth II, replacing Claire Foy, and Outlander’ star Tobias Menzies replacing Matt Smith as Prince Philip. Helena Bonham Carter takes over the role of HRH Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby, and Ben Daniels (‘The Exorcist’, ‘Rogue One’) will play of 1st Earl of Snowdon, Antony Armstrong-Jones, replacing the outgoing Matthew Goode.

Joining them will be Josh O’Connor (‘The Durrells’) as Prince Charles, Marion Bailey (‘Him & Her’, ‘Mr. Turner’) as the Queen Mother, Erin Doherty (‘Les Misérables’) as Princess Anne, and Emerald Fennell (‘Call The Midwife’) as Camilla Shand/Parker Bowles. Additionally, Jason Watkins (Trollied’, ‘W1A’) joins the cast in the role of Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and newcomer Emma Corrin has landed the part of Lady Diana Spencer. Gillian Anderson has also been cast, but for Season 4, playing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Whilst the actual plot of Season 3 hasn’t been released, we do know will span the 70’s era of UK politics which saw Harold Wilson become Prime Minister twice, with Edward Heath taking office in the middle. This era also includes Princess Margaret’s divorce, the 1972 miners’ strike, the assassination of Lord Mountbatten, and the initial appearance of a young Diana Spencer who first met Prince Charles in 1977.

The Crown‘ Season 3 premieres Sunday, 17th November 2019 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
