Doom Patrol has finally landed a UK home, as Amazon channel STARZPLAY announced a January 2020 UK premiere date for the DC Universe series.

‘Doom Patrol’ reimagines one of DC’s most beloved group of Superheroes: Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser – ‘Crash’, ‘The Mummy’, ‘Gods and Monsters’), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer – ‘White Collar’, ‘American Horror Story’ ‘The Normal Heart’), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby – ‘Two and a Half Men’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’) and Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero – ‘Orange is the New Black’), led by modern-day mad scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton – ‘The Living Daylights’, ‘License to Kill’). Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured.

Following the mysterious disappearance of The Chief, these reluctant heroes find themselves in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg (Joivan Wade – ‘The First Purge’, ‘Doctor Who’), who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Alan Tudyk (‘Firefly’ ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’) also stars as Mr. Nobody.

The series comes from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, and is executive produced by Jeremy Carver (‘Supernatural’, ‘Frequency’), Geoff Johns (‘Titans’, ‘Batwoman’), Greg Berlanti (‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’), Sarah Schechter (‘Riverdale’, ‘God Friended Me’) and Chris Dingess (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, ‘Agent Carter’). Currently in production on its second season, the series is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.

For those of you confused as to what is STARZPLAY, it is an addition “add-on” channel you can get via Amazon Prime Video, Virgin Media and Apple TV. This is an additional service and costs £4.99 a month. Over the past few months, it has been building a solid list of high-quality shows, making it well worth the additional fee, which you can turn on and off month by month, so if you want to subscribe for a few months and binge through things, then turn it off, go for it!

Doom Patrol‘ Season 1 premieres Thursday, 2nd January 2020 on STARZPLAY in the UK.
