Official Teaser Trailer Arrives For Marvel’s Black Widow, Premiering May 2020

by Dave Elliott

Marvel Studios has released the first teaser trailer which sees ‘Black Widow’ finally get her solo film, premiering 1st May 2020.

The movie, which is the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sees Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the action-packed spy thriller. If you’re wondering where this is set, the film takes place in the two-year break between ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

The trailer gives us our first look at some of the other cast. They include Florence Pugh (‘Fighting with My Family’, ‘Lady Macbeth’) as Yelena Belova, also known as Black Widow, who Natasha greets as “sis”; David Harbour (‘Stranger Things’, ‘Hellboy’) as Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian, the Russian super-soldier counterpart to Captain America; And Rachel Weisz (‘The Favourite’, ‘The Bourne Legacy’) as Melina Vostokoff aka Iron Maiden. Other cast includes William Hurt, who returns as General Thunderbolt Ross, and O-T Fagbenle (‘The Five’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’) who portrays Rick Mason, an ally of Romanoff.

Another character that pops up in the trailer is the arrow-shooting Taskmaster. In the comics, he is a master assassin who has been both villain and anti-hero, with the ability to absorb knowledge instantaneously, allowing to mimic the abilities of others. The MCU version of the character is a bit of a mystery at the moment, as we don’t yet know who is under that mask.

The film is directed by Cate Shortland (‘Lore’, ‘Berlin Syndrome’), with a script from Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson. Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, President of Marvel Studios, and god of all things Marvel, Kevin Feige, exec produces.

‘Black Widow’ is set to be released in cinemas on Friday, 1st May 2020.
