Netflix has released the first little teaser trailer for Narcos: Mexico‘ Season 2 which is set to premiere in February 2020, and It seems the “Party’s Over” for a certain drug boss…

‘Narcos: Mexico’ continued from the huge success of the original ‘Narcos’ series, moving the drama from Columbia to explore the origins of the modern drug war in Mexico. Season 1 began at a time when Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers and followed the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s. Diego Luna starred as Félix Gallardo, boss of the Guadalajara Cartel, whilst Michael Peña took the role of DEA agent Kiki Camarena, the man trying to stop him.

For those of you who haven’t finished the first season, STOP READING – SPOILER WARNING…

If you are still here and have finished Season 1, you will know we are in for some cast changes, due to the events of the finale, which saw Peña’s Agent Camarena being brutally murdered. The last few moments also revealed the new lead, and the man who had narrated the entire first season – Scoot McNairy (‘Halt and Catch Fire’, ‘Godless’) as DEA Agent Walt Breslin.

Breslin popped up in the final scenes of the drama, as Operation Leyenda launches off the back of Camarena’s death. He is described as “a hardened DEA agent whose methods aren’t always by the book.”

Season 2 sees Breslin, alongside a new team, lead the largest DEA homicide investigation ever undertaken. Diego Luna is set to return as the “inscrutable but sharp-minded” Guadalajara Cartel boss Félix Gallardo, as the drama chronicling the missteps, ill-conceived agendas, and corruption on both sides of the border that has led to a dangerous period in the failed war on drugs.

It’s the mid-1980s, as Gallardo’s super cartel splinters under its own dark weight and social and political shifts within Mexico prompt its desperate government’s most brazen corruption. Meanwhile, the American effort to exact revenge for Kiki Camerana’s execution leads them further away from any hope for justice. The cycle of violence rages on.

As you can see in the new teaser, this could be the last season for Diego Luna’s Gallardo, as things do not look all that friendly at that dinner party. “No one stays on top forever, and is untouchable,” says Breslin in the voiceover… and when you’re sitting down for dinner with people like Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán (Alejandro Edda), we rather suspect things can go downhill pretty quickly!

Narcos: Mexico‘ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 13th February 2020 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
