The CW Picks Up ‘Superman & Lois’ Arrowverse Series & Jared Padalecki’s ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ Reboot

It looks like The CW’s Arrowverse is getting bigger as the network announces they have given series orders to Superman & Lois starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, along with Walker, Texas Ranger starring Jared Padalecki.

The ‘Superman & Lois’ series will see Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise their Arrowverse roles as the man of steel and his intrepid reporter wife. The series, which comes from ‘The Flash’ EP Todd Helbing and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti, revolves around the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

Tyler Hoechlin has been playing Superman in the Arrowverse since 2016, alongside Elizabeth Tulloch joining him in 2018 as Lois Lane. Prior to appearing on the DC shows, Hoechlin starred in ‘Teen Wolf’, whilst Tulloch was best known for her role on ‘Grimm’. Both the actors and their characters appear in the ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ crossover event.

This isn’t the only new Arrowverse show on the cards, as there is also ‘Green Arrow & The Canaries’ spin-off, with Katie Cassidy Rodgers as Laurel Lance, Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake, and Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak. The backdoor pilot for that has yet to air, and no decision has yet been made on if this will go to series.

The other big pick up is a reboot of ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ starring one half of ‘Supernatural’s Winchester brothers, Jared Padalecki. The the “reimagining” of the 90s action series follows Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. The broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case, only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home. In this new version, Walker would have a female partner (one of the only women in Texas Rangers’ history), and they are described as “the modern-day heroes our world needs, following their own moral code to fight for what’s right, regardless of the rules.”

The drama is written by Anna Fricke (‘Wayward Pines’, ‘Being Human’, ‘Valor’) with Fricke, Padalecki, and Dan Lin (‘Lethal Weapon’) exec producing.

The original ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’, created by Leslie Greif and Paul Haggis, ran from 1993 to 2001, and starred the legendary Chuck Norris in the title role. The new version is a straight reboot, in the vein of ‘Magnum’‘Macgyver’ etc… rather than some continuation of the original show.

Both Superman & Lois and Walker, Texas Ranger obviously don’t yet have UK broadcasters (although I do hope Sky One is quicker off the mark with the Arrowverse series this time than they were with Batwoman…) We’ll let you know when we hear more.
