Season 1 of HBO comedy ‘The Righteous Gemstones‘ will premiere on Sky Comedy from Wednesday, 5th February 2020 the UK broadcaster has announced.
Danny McBride (‘Eastbound & Down’, ‘Vice Principals’) writes and stars in the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work – all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesse Gemstone (McBride) is a maverick in the ministry game. He has taken the congregation that his father Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) created and used it to build a megachurch for the modern-day churchgoer. But upon returning from a baptism marathon in China with his father and brother Kelvin (Adam Devive), Jesse receives a video from blackmailers seeking to sully his reputation. Meanwhile, Eli moves forward with plans to expand the Gemstone empire as he continues to mourn his late wife Aimee-Leigh.
‘Righteous Gemstones’ marks the third HBO series for the Rough House Pictures team of McBride, Jody Hill and David Gordon Green, following ‘Eastbound & Down’ and ‘Vice Principals’. McBride wrote and directed the pilot, with Green and Hill splitting directing duties on the other eight episodes. The series has also already been renewed for Season 2.

‘The Righteous Gemstones‘ Season 1 premieres Wednesday, 5th February 2020 at 9pm on Sky Comedy (Channel 113 on Sky, Channel 121 on Virgin Media).
