Netflix has released the full trailer for Altered Carbon Season 2 which sees Anthony Mackie “re-sleeved” as the new face of Takeshi Kovacs, from 27th February 2020.

Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan‘Altered Carbon’ is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent.

As previously announced, MCU’s Anthony Mackie takes over the role of Takeshi Kovacs from Joel Kinnaman in Season 2. A former Protectorate CTAC soldier who became a revolutionary Envoy, and then a mercenary for hire, Kovacs swears allegiance to no man or woman except one: Quellcrist Falconer. His undying quest to reconnect with her spans multiple centuries, planets and sleeves.

Looking at the trailer, it seems the new Mackie-shaped sleeve is a bit of an upgrade from the previous Kinnaman model. According to the voiceover, this new model is for “military use only” and comes with “rapid healing, enhanced reaction time, among other bells and whistles”… which seem to include the ability to have guns magically fly into your hands!

Returning cast includes Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer, a fierce revolutionary leader with a deep bond to Kovacs, and Chris Conner as Poe, the centuries-old, highly-evolved A.I. who is a loyal companion to Kovacs, and strives to understand what it means to be human.

Joining the cast this year are Simone Missick (Marvel TV’s Misty Knight) as Trepp, an expert bounty hunter known for her ability to track down anyone in the Settled Worlds… for the right price; Dina Shihabi (‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’) as Dig 301, an out-of-work A.I. programmed to assist human archaeologists, who finds a new purpose when she meets Poe; Torben Liebrecht (‘X Company’) as Colonel Ivan Carrera, the dogged leader of a Protectorate Special Forces unit known as the “Wedge”, who are hunting Kovacs; Lela Loren (‘Power’) as Danica Harlan, the charming and ambitious governor of planet Harlan’s World; And James Saito (‘The Terror’) as Tanaseda Hideki, a centuries-old Yakuza boss who controls organized crime on Harlan’s World and shares a history with Kovacs.

‘Altered Carbon’ comes from Skydance Television. Alison Schapker, Laeta Kalogridis and James Middleton serve as executive producers for the series, alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross for Skydance.

Altered Carbon‘ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 27th February 2020 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
