Dylan Walsh Joins Arrowverse’s ‘Superman & Lois’ As General Lane

The recent Crisis event has had a wide range of effects across the Arrowverse shows, the latest of which seems to be that Lois has got a new dad, as Dylan Walsh takes over the role of General Lane in the new Superman & Lois series.

‘Superman & Lois’ sees Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise their Arrowverse roles as the man of steel and his intrepid reporter wife. The series, which comes from ‘The Flash’ EP Todd Helbing and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti, revolves around the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

Walsh is set to play Samuel Lane, father of Lois, and a no-nonsense Army general who’s determined to keep America, and the world, safe from all threats – from this world or beyond. Lane’s a workaholic who demands nothing but excellence from all those in his life.

This is not the first time we’ve seen General Lane in the Arrowverse, as the character appeared in ‘Supergirl’ played by Glenn Morshower in a recurring role. I suspect the recasting may not be referenced on-screen, but could easily be explained away by the Crisis if they feel the need.

Dylan Walsh has appeared in a multitude of tv shows, but is probably best known for his role as Dr. Sean McNamara in ‘Nip/Tuck’. Since then he has appeared in ‘Unforgettable’, ‘Longmire’, ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’, ‘Life Sentence’ and ‘Whiskey Cavalier’. Most recently, he has been playing Mayor Peter Chase in cop drama ‘Blue Bloods’.

Alongside Hoechlin, Tulloch, and Walsh, ‘Superman & Lois’ stars Jordan Elsass (‘Little Fires Everywhere’) & Alexander Garfin (‘The Peanuts Movie’) as the couples now teen children, Jonathan and Jordan Kent. Again, the fact Lois and Clark now, not only have two kids, but also teenagers, seems to be more post-Crisis fallout.

Former ‘Flash’ showrunner Todd Helbing exec produces the series alongside with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns via Berlanti Productions. ‘Superman & Lois’ was given a straight-to-series order of 13-episodes, although, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nothing is shooting at the moment. They hope to manage to shoot the run over the Summer sometime, with an eye to premiering either Autumn or early 2021.

Superman & Lois will air on The CW in the USA. There is no official UK pick up yet, but let us hope the Sky One acquisitions team aren’t asleep at the wheel this time and manage to bag it for broadcast, rather than have another ‘Batwoman’ fiasco… We’ll let you know when we hear more.
