BBC Picks Up Danish Thriller ‘DNA’ From ‘The Killing’ Co-Creator

The BBC has picked up the UK broadcast rights to ‘DNA’, a new Danish crime thriller from Torleif Hoppe, co-creator of ‘The Killing’, it has been announced.

The cast includes Oscar-nominated British actress Charlotte Rampling (’45 Years’, ‘Broadchurch’), Poland’s rising star Zofia Wichlacz (‘1983’), renowned Danish actors Anders W. Berthelsen (‘The Killing’) and Nicolas Bro (‘The Bridge’, ‘The Killing’), and Olivia Joof (‘Perfect Places’).

‘DNA’ follows Rolf Larsen (Berthelsen), a respected detective on the Copenhagen police force, has his life brutally upended when his baby daughter goes missing. Five years after the tragedy a new lead emerges when a serious flaw is uncovered in the Danish police’s DNA database. Realising that his daughter may still be alive, Rolf tries to find out what really happened to her by investigating a parallel case with ties to an international child-trafficking ring. During the course of the investigation, Rolf gets help from Claire (Rampling), a seasoned French investigator who is working on a similar case.

“Beginning with a shocking event, DNA is an intriguing and unexpected crime series which will keep BBC viewers absorbed to the very end,” comments Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition, BBC.

DNA was acquired for the BBC by Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition. It was directed by Kasper Gaardsøe. The producers and Trin Thomsen and Sven Clausen from Nordisk Film. The series is produced by Nordisk Film Production, in collaboration with France’s Frenchkiss Pictures and co-produced by TV 2 Denmark and Arte France. Noor Sadar and Aurélie Meimon are associate producers for French Kiss.

The 8 episodes series of ‘DNA’ is set to air on the BBC later in 2020.
