Sky Witness Picks Up Legal Drama ‘For Life’ In New Long-Term Deal With Sony Pictures Television

Sky has signed a new long-term deal with Sony Pictures Television which not only secures the future of shows such as ‘The Blacklist’, ‘The Good Doctor’ & ‘S.W.A.T.’, but will also bring new legal drama For Life to Sky Witness later this year.

Inspired by the life of Isaac Wright Jr., ‘For Life’ is a fictional serialized legal and family drama about a prisoner, Aaron Wallace (Nicholas Pinnock – ‘Marcella’, ‘Counterpart’), who becomes a lawyer litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. His quest for freedom is driven by his desperate desire to get back to the family he loves – his estranged wife (Joy Bryant – ‘Trinkets’, ‘Ballers’) and daughter (Tyla Harris – ‘Six’, ‘Claws’) – and reclaim the life that was stolen from him. Through the window of Aaron Wallace’s ferocious struggle and complicated relationship with a progressive female prison warden (Indira Varma – ‘Carnival Row’, ‘Game Of Thrones’), the series also examines the flaws and challenges in our penal and legal systems.

Along with ‘For Life’, the deal will see all new and future Sony Pictures Entertainment feature films such as ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’, ‘Little Women’, ‘Bad Boys For Life’ and the forthcoming sequel ‘Peter Rabbit 2’ become available on Sky Cinema, alongside new family animation from Lin-Manuel Miranda, ‘Vivo’, and Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters films ‘Venom 2’ and ‘Morbius’. They have also added Sony’s extensive feature film library which includes movies such as ‘Hotel Transylvania’, ‘Ghostbusters’, ‘Karate Kid’ and the ‘Spider-Man’ franchises. On the tv show side, the deal secures renewals for next seasons of returning hits ‘The Blacklist’, ‘The Good Doctor’ & ‘S.W.A.T.’

“We are delighted to extend our special relationship with Sky through this new and improved Movie and TV series deal,” commented Mark Young, Regional Executive Vice President, Western Europe, Sony Pictures Television. “The industry is going through a dynamic and challenging time and our continued partnership is a tremendous way to present the full power of our library, in conjunction with our most popular titles, to Sky customers across Europe.”

For Life‘ Season 1 premieres later in 2020 on Sky Witness. The drama has been renewed for a 2nd Season by US broadcaster ABC.
