‘The Boys’ Season 2 Gets A Trailer, Premiering 4th September On Amazon Prime

by Dave Elliott

The Boys are back in town for Season 2 this September, and the new trailer is as gory and f’ed up as you (probably) hoped!

From ‘Supernatural’s Eric Kripke and ‘Preacher’s Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen, ‘The Boys’ is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Season 1 saw the powerless take on the super powerful as The Boys embarked on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven, and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets.

The even more intense, more insane second season finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes centre stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalise on the nation’s paranoia.

The Supes of The Seven also include Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell). Recurring stars in season two include Claudia Doumit, Goran Visnijc, Malcolm Barrett, Colby Minifie, Shantel VanSanten, Cameron Crovetti, PJ Byrne, Laila Robbins and Giancarlo Esposito returning as Vought boss Stan Edgar, among others.

For the second season, Amazon is trying something new with the broadcast schedule. Rather than dropping everything at once, they are taking a note from Apple’s book, only releasing the first three episodes on Friday, 4th September 2020. New episodes will then be available each Friday culminating in an epic season finale on 9th October 2020. The reason given by showrunner Eric Kripke is that there is “so much crazy sh*t this season, we wanted to give the audience a chance to absorb and recover!”

The eight-episode Amazon Original series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 territories around the world, and is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios with Point Grey Pictures, Kripke Enterprises and Original Film.

The Boys‘ Season 2 premieres Friday, 4th September 2020 on Amazon Prime with episodes 1 to 3, then the rest of the season will premiere weekly on Fridays.
