Sky Atlantic has announced new series ‘I Hate Suzie‘ starring and co-created by Billie Piper, alongside ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ creator Lucy Prebble, will premiere in August, and they have also released a little teaser trailer.
‘I Hate Suzie’ is a bold, bracing, drama about the moment in life when the mask slips, asking if any of us can survive being well and truly “known”. Suzie Pickles (Piper), a star on the wane, has her whole life upended when she is hacked and a photo of her emerges in an extremely compromising position. This excruciatingly honest eight-part series reveals Suzie’s unmasking and its trauma episode by episode, through the stages of Shock, Denial, Fear, Shame, Bargaining, Guilt, Anger and Acceptance as Suzie and her best friend and manager Naomi (Leila Farzad – ‘Innocent’, ‘Twenty Twelve’) try to hold her life, career and marriage to Cob (Daniel Ings – ‘Lovesick’, ‘The Crown’) together.
The series also stars Lorraine Ashbourne (‘Unforgotten’, ‘Jericho’) and Phil Daniels (‘EastEnders’, ‘New Tricks’), who play Suzie’s parents.
“It’s taken years to finally get Lucy, my long-term GF and favourite writer in London – to work with me again,” commented Piper. “We feel we’ve created something timely and not for the faint-hearted. If you too suffer with anxiety, shame, compulsive lying but like a laugh, please tune in at some point.”
Produced by Bad Wolf Limited, ‘I Hate Suzie’ was commissioned by Zai Bennett, Managing Director of Content at Sky and Cameron Roach, Director of Drama, Sky Studios. Liz Lewin is the Commissioning Editor for Sky and the series is co-created and executive produced by Lucy Prebble and Billie Piper. Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter are executive producers. The series is directed by Georgi Banks-Davies and produced by Andrea Dewsbery for Bad Wolf.
“At last I get to make my best friend Billie Piper do terrible things on screen again,” added Prebble when the show was commissioned. “It is all I live for!”
‘I Hate Suzie‘ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 27th August 2020 on Sky Atlantic, with all episodes streaming via On Demand and NOW TV.
