Teaser Trailer Arrives For USA Network/Syfy’s ‘Chucky’ TV Series, Coming 2021

by Dave Elliott

A little teaser trailer has landed for the upcoming Chucky tv series, which is due to air in on USA Network and Syfy in the US in 2021 (no UK broadcaster yet), starring the red-haired, freckled-faced doll possessed by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray.

Based on the popular horror movie franchise, the new tv show sees a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, which throws an idyllic American town into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies – and allies – from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

The show is written and created by Don Mancini, who wrote all the original films in the ‘Child’s Play’ universe, and went to write on ‘Hannibal’ and ‘Channel Zero’. Mancini also serves as showrunner and exec produces alongside David Kirschner (‘Hocus Pocus’, ‘Frailty’), and Nick Antosca (‘The Act’, ‘Channel Zero’) via his banner Eat the Cat, through his overall deal with studio UCP, who produce the drama. Emmy-nominated Harley Peyton (‘Twin Peaks’, ‘Channel Zero’) will also serve as executive producer.

“The longevity and legacy of Chucky speaks to the creative storytelling and the loyal fans the film series has collected over the years,” commented USA and Syfy entertainment president Chris McCumber. “We are incredibly proud to bring Chucky to television for the first time with the original creators.”

In 1988, Chucky slashed his way into the pop culture zeitgeist with the premiere of ‘Child’s Play’ directed and co-written by Tom Holland, produced by Kirschner, and based on a story by Mancini. The international sensation spawned six sequels, all of which Mancini wrote and Kirschner produced. Mancini also directed three of the films in the franchise: ‘Seed of Chucky’ (2004), ‘Curse of Chucky’ (2013) and ‘Cult of Chucky’ (2017).

Chucky Season 1 will premiere on USA Network and Syfy in 2021 across the US. We don’t know when or where it may land in the UK yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
