Netflix has released the first trailer for their Young Wallander series, which premieres Thursday, 3rd September 2020 on the streaming service.

Based on the best selling Kurt Wallander novels by Henning Mankell, the English-language drama is a modern reimagining of the legendary detective, Kurt Wallander, who must navigate the increasingly violent environment of present-day Sweden. When he is unable to save a teenager from a gruesome attack, Wallander must learn to cope with his guilt in order to solve the crime. The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal – faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties.

Told over six serialized episodes the drama features both British and Swedish cast led by Adam Pålsson (‘Bron/Broen’, ‘Helt Perfekt’) the young detective Kurt Wallander. He is joined by Richard Dillane (Wolf Hall’, ‘Outlander’) as Superintendent Hemberg, Leanne Best (‘Cold Feet’, ‘Black Mirror’) as Frida Rask, Ellise Chappell (‘Poldark’, ‘Yesterday’) as Mona, Yasen Atour (‘Marcella’, ‘Robin Hood’) as Reza, Charles Mnene (‘Casualty’, ‘Macbeth’) as Bash, Jacob Collins-Levy (‘The White Princess’) as Karl-Axel Munck, Alan Emrys (‘Johnny English Strikes Again’) as Gustav Munck, and Kiza Deen (‘Hollyoaks’) as Mariam.

The series is created by Yellow Bird UK, a Banijay Group company, and the producer of the Swedish Wallander franchise at TV4 as well as the successful BBC series Wallander from 2008. Ole Endresen and Jens Jonsson direct the drama, with Benjamin Harris, Jessica Ruston, Anoo Baghavan, Ben Schiffer writing. Berna Levin produces.
