Revival Of Crime Drama ‘Leverage’ Begins Production With Noah Wyle Joining Cast

A revival of the 2008 crime drama Leverage is underway, with Noah Wyle joining original cast members Beth Riesgraf, Gina Bellman and Christian Kane, alongside Aldis Hodge, for IMDb TV in the USA.

The original series ran from 2008 to 2012, and followed a team of reformed criminals who, like modern-day “Robin Hoods”, use their unique set of skills to fight corporate and governmental injustices inflicted on ordinary citizens.

The sequel series is a fresh update of the original concept, with Noah Wyle joining the cast alongside Beth Riesgraf who reprises her role as Parker (The Thief), Gina Bellman who returns as Sophie Devereaux (The Grifter), and Christian Kane who will, once again, play Eliot Spencer (The Hitter). Aldis Hodge is also set to appear as Alec Hardison (The Hacker), however, this will be a recurring role due to his commitments on Showtimes ‘City On A Hill’. Timothy Hutton will not be returning following allegations of sexual assault.

The revival series comes from original series exec producer & director Dean Devlin, who exec produces the revival alongside Marc Roskin, Rachel Olschan-Wilson and Kate Rorick. Original series creators John Rogers & Chris Downey serve as consulting producers. The series is produced by Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment.

“Since the day it was cancelled, I’ve longed to return to the world of Leverage,” commented Devlin. “The show, the characters, the cast and the people who made it happen all hold a very special place in my heart. Our new series with Amazon Studios and IMDb TV is a re-imagining of the original premise. While Leverage centred on a crusade to avenge the death of a child, this series is propelled forward as a redemption story of misdeeds that need amends. I could not be more excited and fired up about returning to the world of Hitter, Hacker, Grifter, Thief!!”

The ‘Leverage’ revival series is one of the first shows to begin filming following the shutdown caused by the global pandemic. Shooting in New Orleans, the cast were flown in by private jet for coronavirus testing prior to the first table read – sat 6 feet apart, and wearing face shields – in early August (see photo from Beth Riesgraf’s Instagram below). They are now into their second week of filming, and things appear to be going well.

Along with starring in the series, some of the actors will be stepping behind the cameras too. Wyle is set to direct two episodes, whilst Riesgraf will also direct an episode. Wyle previously worked with both Devlin and Rogers on ‘The Librarians’, where he directed, wrote and exec produced episodes.

If you’re a little confused as to what IMDb TV is, it’s a streaming service which is currently only available in the USA either as a channel on Amazon Prime Video or an app on Amazon Fire TV. We don’t know where the Leverage revival will end up landing in the UK, but we’ll let you know when we have more info!
