Showtime Picks Up Astronaut Comedy ‘Moonbase 8’ Starring John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen & Tim Heidecker

Showtime Picks Up Astronaut Comedy ‘Moonbase 8’ Starring John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen & Tim Heidecker

Showtime has picked up half-hour workplace comedy Moonbase 8 starring John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen & Tim Heidecker it has been announced.

Set in the isolated desert of Winslow, Arizona at NASA’s Moon Base Simulator, the series follows eager astronauts Skip (Armisen), Rook (Heidecker) and their leader Cap (Reilly) as they attempt to qualify for their first lunar mission. While working vigorously to complete their training, a series of unexpected circumstances forces the astronauts to question their own mental sanity, trust in each other and whether or not they’re cut out for space travel.

“In a year when we have all been forced to come to terms with life in close quarters, we are happy to have landed this offbeat take on life in captivity with dreams of escaping to something grander,” comments Jana Winograde, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. “While the show was produced before the pandemic, its subject matter is timely – and thanks to Fred, Tim, John and Jonathan, its humour is timeless.”

Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly you will know from such films as ‘Chicago’, ‘Holmes & Watson’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, ‘Stan and Ollie’, and ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ where he provides the voice of Ralph. Actor/writer/composer Fred Armisen has appeared in series such as ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’, ‘SNL’, and ‘Portlandia’, along with voicing characters on ‘Big Mouth’, ‘Final Space’ and ‘Archer’. Actor/writer/director Tim Heidecker has appeared in shows such as ‘Decker’, ‘Tim and Eric’s Bedtime Stories’, and ‘Eastbound & Down’.

The series is created, written and executive produced by Armisen, Heidecker, Reilly alongside Emmy nominee Jonathan Krisel (‘Baskets’), who also serves as series director. ‘Moonbase 8’ is produced by A24 and Abso Lutely Productions. In addition to Armisen, Heidecker, Reilly and Krisel, the series is also executive produced by Dave Kneebone, Eric Wareheim, and A24’s Ravi Nandan and Inman Young.

The six-episode series of Moonbase 8 will premiere Fall 2020 on Showtime in the USA. That may mean it airs on Sky in the UK as part of their overall carriage deal, although that doesn’t always follow with every Showtime series, so we’ll have to wait and see if there is an official announcement. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
