Netflix has released a trailer for ‘The Boys in the Band’, a movie adaptation of Mart Crowley’s Tony Award-winning play that changed a generation, from Joe Mantello & Ryan Murphy, with a stellar cast!

‘The Boys in the Band’ follows a group of nine gay men who gather for a birthday party in 1968 New York City – only to find the drinks and laughs interrupted when a visitor from the host’s past turns the evening upside down.

The film is directed by Joe Mantello (‘Hollywood’, ‘Wicked’ on Broadway), and is exec produced by Ryan Murphy, David Stone, and Ned Martel. Murphy & Mantello previously produced a revival of the play on Broadway in 2018, which led to this version for Netflix using the same cast of openly gay actors for both versions. The original play, which premiered Off-Broadway in 1968, was described as a “true theatrical game-changer” for its groundbreaking portrayal of gay life at the time.

The movie stars Jim Parsons (‘Big Bang Theory’, ‘Hollywood’), Zachary Quinto (‘American Horror Story’, ‘Star Trek’), Matt Bomer (‘Doom Patrol’, ‘American Horror Story’), Andrew Rannells (‘Girls’, ‘The Knick’), Charlie Carver (‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘Teen Wolf’), Robin de Jesús (‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’), Brian Hutchison (‘The Sinner’), Michael Benjamin Washington (‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’, ‘Ratched’), and Tuc Watkins (‘Black Monday’, ‘Awkward’).

‘The Boys in the Band’ premieres Wednesday, 30th September 2020 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
