Netflix Announces Sienna Miller, Michelle Dockery, Rupert Friend Cast In Adaptation Of ‘Anatomy Of A Scandal’

Netflix has announced the leading cast for their upcoming adaptation of Sarah Vaughan’s best-selling novel Anatomy of a Scandal, from ‘Big Little Lies’ creator David E. Kelley and Melissa James Gibson (‘House of Cards’, ‘The Americans’).

Based on the internationally bestselling novel ‘Anatomy of a Scandal’ by Sarah Vaughan, the series is described as “an insightful and suspenseful drama about a sexual consent scandal amongst British privileged elite and the women caught up in its wake.” The drama consists of six episodes and will follow an anthology format, with each one telling a different scandal.

The original novel centres on a high-profile marriage that begins to unravel when the husband is accused of a terrible crime. Sophie is sure her husband, James, is innocent and desperately hopes to protect her precious family from the lies which might ruin them. Kate is the barrister who will prosecute the case – she is equally certain that James is guilty and determined he will pay for his crimes.

Sienna Miller is set to play Sophie Whitehouse, an Oxford graduate, a wife and a mother of two whose perfectly charmed life is about to implode. Miller got her breakthrough roles in the films ‘Layer Cake’ and ‘Alfie’, and has since gone on to star in films such as ‘The Lost City of Z’, ‘American Sniper’, and ‘Foxcatcher’, along with the tv miniseries ‘The Loudest Voice’.

Michelle Dockery will portray Kate Woodcroft, QC, who is a steely criminal barrister specializing in prosecuting sexual crimes who’s risen quickly in her field, and just got handed the case of a lifetime. Dockery is probably best known for ‘Downton Abbey’, which saw her nominated for both Golden Globe and Emmy Awards. More recently she appeared in the Netflix series ‘Godless’ and the Apple TV+ drama ‘Defending Jacob’.

Rupert Friend will play James Whitehouse, an ambitious and charismatic junior minister who has always shared his wife’s good fortune… until now. Friend is best known for his role as Peter Quinn in the Showtime political thriller series ‘Homeland’, but has also starred as Agent 47 in the film ‘Hitman: Agent 47’, along with appearing in Armando Iannucci’s ‘The Death of Stalin’, and the CBS All Access drama ‘Strange Angel’.

David E. Kelley (‘Big Little Lies’, ‘Goliath’) and Melissa James Gibson (‘House of Cards’, ‘The Americans’) will serve as writers, showrunners and exec producers. S.J. Clarkson (‘Jessica Jones’, ‘The Defenders’) set to direct all episodes. Liza Chasin (‘The Loudest Voice’, ‘Baby Driver’) of 3Dot Productions, Bruna Papandrea (‘Gone Girl’, ‘Big Little Lies’), Steve Hutensky and Allie Goss of Made Up Stories also exec produce, along with Sarah Vaughan, and Margaret Chernin as Co-Executive Producer.

Anatomy of a Scandal‘ will premiere on Netflix UK and worldwide. There is no premiere date yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
