‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Is A New Spin-Off Series Confirms Favreau. ‘The Mandalorian’ Will Return For Season 3.

For anyone watching Season 2 of The Mandalorian, it was full of surprises and some amazing cameos. However, one of the biggest came in the post-credit scene at the end of the series finale. Now… If you have not yet finished ‘The Mandalorian’, STOP READING, as this article will mention some things you may not want to know!

Still here?

Good… but just in case, SPOILERS BELOW!

So, as you know, ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 saw the return of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), last seen in ‘Return Of The Jedi’ falling into a Sarlacc pit, apparently alive and well. He ends up teaming up with Mando to help rescue Grogu (aka “The Child”, aka “Baby Yoda”) from the clutches of the evil Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). In a post-credits scene, we see Fett, alongside assassin Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), return to Jabba’s place on Tatooine, where Bib Fortuna has taken over the operation… and has not been watching his calorie intake! Fett shoots Fortuna, taking his place on the throne, which is followed by a title card saying “THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT…. COMING DECEMBER 2021”.

Whilst there had been rumours of a Fett series, it was missing during the recent announcements from the Disney Investor Day. However, as it had already been announced that ‘The Mandalorian’ would be returning for a 3rd Season in December 2021, this led to a lot of speculation that ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ was a subtitle for Season 3, not a separate series. Now, co-creator Jon Favreau has appeared on US morning tv to clarify what is going on.

“This is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season 3,” Favreau told Good Morning America. “The Book of Boba Fett, as it is titled, is already filming, “and then we go into production after that with Season 3 of The Mandalorian, with the main character we know and love.”

‘The Book of Boba Fett’ series was intentionally left out of the investor day announcements to avoid spoilers for the season finale. Favreau, Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez will exec-produce the new series, which sees Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen return as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, and, we presume, will take place on Tatooine. Hopefully, we may get some explanation as to how Fett got out of the Sarlacc pit!

Both ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 are set to arrive in December 2021, although it’s not clear if they will run side-by-side, or straight after one another. It’s also going to be interesting to see where things go with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) now that his original quest, to return Grogu to the Jedi, is seemingly complete. Will he join Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) in retaking Mandalore? Will he find a new ship to replace the Razor Crest? Will we see Grogu again? We’ll have to wait 12 months to find out!
