Netflix Picks Up ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Series From David E. Kelley With Manuel Garcia-Rulfo As Lead

Netflix has handed a series order to The Lincoln Lawyer, a drama based on Michael Connelly’s series of bestselling novels, from ‘Big Little Lies’ creator David E. Kelley, with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo set to take the lead role.

‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ follows Mickey Haller (Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclastic idealist, runs his law practice out of the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car, as he takes on cases big and small across the expansive city of Los Angeles. The series will be adapted to serve up the complex and mysterious arcs fans know and love with a mix of light-hearted humour and a dose of family dynamics. Season one will consist of 10 one-hour episodes and will be based on the second book in the series, The Brass Verdict.

Mexican actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is probably best known for the 2016 film ‘The Magnificent Seven’, 2019 Netflix movie ‘6 Underground’, and Ken Branagh’s ‘Murder on the Orient Express’. He also starred in the tv series ‘From Dusk till Dawn: The Series’ and Amazon’s ‘Goliath’.

“Manuel is the ideal Mickey Haller, as Haller follows in the footsteps of his attorney father with the showmanship of his Mexican movie star mother,” commented Michael Connelly on the casting. “Manuel brings a powerful dynamic and dimension to the role – one that aligns with the books and will give the show the opportunity to celebrate the Latinx heritage and roots of this Los Angeles-based story.”

David E. Kelley (‘Big Little Lies’, ‘Goliath’) series as writer/exec producer, alongside Ted Humphrey (‘The Good Wife’, ‘Wisdom of the Crowd’) as showrunner/exec producer/writer, and Ross Fineman (‘Goliath’, ‘Big Sky’) as exec producer. A+E serves as the studio.

The series was originally pitched to CBS last year, but they opted not to pick up the drama. Whilst the team behind the cameras is mainly the same, the show has seen most of the actors recast from the CBS pilot. They are now searching for a director to helm the project. This will mark the second time ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ has been adapted for the screen, following a 2011 movie version which had Matthew McConaughey in the lead role.

“I’m thrilled to call Netflix our home,” adds Connelly. “And I’m excited to bring this rich, multilayered story filled with intriguing characters and mysteries to solve to millions of viewers – both old and new fans – around the world.”

We don’t know when exactly ‘The Lincoln Lawyer‘ Season 1 will arrive, but the series will air on Netflix UK and worldwide.
