‘Marcella’ Season 3 Gets January UK Premiere On ITV

ITV has confirmed Marcella will return for its 3rd Season this January in the UK.

Described as a Scandinavian noir on the streets of Britain, the show sees Anna Friel back as Detective Sergeant Marcella Backland. Following on from the dramatic conclusion of the previous series, the new eight-part season sees Marcella in Belfast as an undercover detective.

She has taken on a new identity, Keira, and has infiltrated the infamous Maguire crime family but as she investigates their activities, questions come to the fore about how much she’s embraced the Keira personality and left Marcella behind.

In true Marcella style, the series has interweaving storylines with strands focusing upon the Maguires’ criminal operations. As she inhabits the character of Keira, Marcella’s quest for the truth puts her in danger and others in harm’s way. Her undercover role makes her take risks, but will her old life eventually catch up with her?

‘Marcella’ is created by written, directed and produced by Swedish screenwriter Hans Rosenfeldt (‘The Bridge’), and the 3rd Season sees Friel joined by Hugo Speer, Amanda Burton, Kelly Gough, Martin McCann, Eugene O’Hare Rory Maguire, Ray Panthaki and Paul Kennedy.

Marcella‘ Season 3 premieres 26 January at 9pm on ITV. The entire series will also be available on ITV Hub to binge your way through on the same date.
