‘For All Mankind’ Gets Full Season 2 Trailer, Premiering Feb On Apple TV+

by Dave Elliott

Ronald D. Moore’s superb alt-history drama For All Mankind is set to return on Apple TV+ this February and whilst things might have moved forward in time to the cold war, the drama and tension is really heating up!

‘For All Mankind’ is a “what if” take on history from Golden Globe nominee and Emmy Award winner, Ronald D. Moore. Told through the lives of astronauts, engineers and their families, the series imagines a world in which the global space race never ended and the space program remained the cultural centrepiece of America’s hopes and dreams.

Season 1 followed the story of a group of US astronauts who watch in horror in 1969 as a Soviet cosmonaut becomes the first man on the moon. This single event propels the space race between the two superpowers in a widely different direction, as NASA rush to not only land, but be the first to get a base on the lunar surface.

Season 2 moves things to the 80s and the tensions between the two superpowers hasn’t abated. Ronald Reagan is president and the greater ambitions of science and space exploration are at threat of being squandered, as the U.S. and Soviets go head-to-head to control sites rich in resources on the moon. The Department of Defense has moved into Mission Control, and the militarization of NASA becomes central to several characters’ stories: Some fight it, some use it as an opportunity to advance their own interests and some find themselves at the height of a conflict that may lead to nuclear war.

As we’ve moved forward in time, that means some new faces in the cast to star alongside the returning Joel Kinnaman (Edward Baldwin), Shantel VanSanten (Karen Baldwin), Michael Dorman (Gordo Stevens), Sarah Jones (Tracy Stevens), Wrenn Schmidt (Margo Madison), Jodi Balfour (Ellen Wilson), Krys Marshall (Danielle Poole) and Sonya Walger (Molly Cobb).

The new cast includes Cynthy Wu (‘American Vandal’, ‘Weird City’) will play Ed and Karen’s adopted daughter, Kelly Baldwin; Coral Peña (’24: Legacy’, ‘The Enemy Within’, ‘Chemical Hearts’) plays Aleida Rosales, a brilliant engineer with a complicated past; and Casey W. Johnson (‘GLOW’, ‘Rise’) portrays Danny Stevens, the son of astronauts Gordo and Tracy.

The series is created and written by Moore, with Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi (‘The Umbrella Academy’, ‘Fargo’). Sony Pictures Television and Tall Ship Productions serve as the production companies.

For All Mankind’ Season 2 premieres Friday, 19th February 2021 on Apple TV+ worldwide, with the first of the 10 episode season. Episodes will then be released weekly.
