‘Titans’ S3 Adds Another Robin – Jay Lycurgo Cast As Tim Drake

I know a lot of you were really concerned that Titans just wouldn’t have enough characters in the cast when it returns for Season 3… Well, fear not, as they have now added Jay Lycurgo as Tim Drake (because you can never have too many Robins… apparently…)

The series follows Dick Grayson, aka the former Robin (Brenton Thwaites), who emerges from the shadows as Nightwing to lead a band of heroes – including Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) and others. The story follows this group of young heroes as they come of age and find belonging.

Jay Lycurgo (‘I May Destroy You’, ‘Doctors’) is set to play Robin #3, Tim Drake, although they seem to have switched up his background a little for the tv show. He is described as a streetwise kid who’s managed to grow up on the toughest streets without losing his indelible belief in heroism. His easy-going demeanour is backed up by a near-genius mind. A natural detective with a perception of detail far beyond his years.

This is a little different to Drake’s comic book origin. There, he isn’t a tough street kid, but someone who has been following the exploits of Batman and Robin for years, even being audience as a young child the night Dick Grayson’s parents were murdered at the circus. He manages to figure out Dick Grayson was Robin before becoming Nightwing and Bruce is Batman. When he sees Batman in trouble he tries to convince Dick that Batman needs a Robin by his side, not Nightwing. Dick offers to help, but understandably, refuses to become Robin again, which eventually leads to Drake himself taking over the role.

Lycurgo joins an ever-growing cast of characters in ‘Titans’ Season 3, which sees our heroes heading to Gotham City and that will see them reunite with old friends and face new threats… Other new characters include Savannah Welch (The Tree of Life’, ‘Boyhood’) as Barbara Gordon, who is Gotham’s police commissioner in this version, and the yet-to-be-cast Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, who will be an Arkham Asylum inmate who offers his services as a profiler and consultant for the GCPD.

Alongside Lycurgo, Welch, Thwaites, Diop, Croft, and Potter, Season 3 will also see Joshua Orpin return as Connor/Superboy, Conor Leslie as Donna Troy/Wondergirl, Joshua Orpin as Conner Kent/Superboy, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall/Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger/Dove. Also returning are Curran Walters’ as Jason Todd, who morphs from Robin #2 into his Red Hood persona following the events of Season 2, and Damaris Lewis as Starfire’s sister, Blackfire.

Titans‘ Season 3 is currently filming. The series airs on HBO Max in the US, and Netflix in the UK.
