Paramount+ Orders ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel Series ‘Y: 1883’
Paramount+ (the new name for CBS All Access from next month), has handed a series order to ‘Y: 1883‘, a prequel series to the popular Kevin Cosner-fronted drama ‘Yellowstone’ it has been announced.
‘Y: 1883’ follows the Dutton family (ancestors of Cosner’s John Dutton Jr.) as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.
The series comes from Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of ‘Yellowstone’. The new drama comes as part of a five-year overall deal Sheridan has signed with MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios to create scripted and procedural series across ViacomCBS brands such as Paramount Network, Paramount+, and CBS. Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari will produce.

The third season of ‘Yellowstone’ was the most-watched season premiere on cable in two years drawing record-breaking numbers of 6.5M total viewers in live +3. The show – co-created by Taylor Sheridan & John Linson – has also developed a rabid fan community.

‘Y: 1883‘ will premiere on Paramount+, although we don’t yet know when. Along with a name change from CBS All Access, the streaming service is set for some limited international expansion this year, debuting in Latin America on March 4, 2021, the Nordics on March 25, 2021, and Australia in mid-2021. There is not yet any confirmed news on whether the service will come to the UK, but we’ll let you know when we hear something.
