‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’: Laurence O’Fuarain Lands Leading Role In Netflix Prequel

The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel to the popular Netflix drama, has cast another leading role, with Irish actor Laurence O’Fuarain taking the role of a character called Fjall.

Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of ‘The Witcher’, ‘Blood Origin’ will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

O’Fuarain will portray Fjall, who was born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a King but carries a deep scar within – the death of a loved one who fell in battle trying to save him. A scar that won’t let him settle, or make peace with himself or the world around him. In his quest for redemption, Fjall will find himself fighting beside the most unlikely of allies as he carves a path of vengeance across a continent in turmoil.

Hailing from Dublin, Laurence O’Fuarain trained at The Factory (now Bow Street), graduating in 2015. His TV credits include ‘Vikings’ (History Channel), ‘Game of Thrones’ (HBO), ‘Into the Badlands’ (AMC), ‘Rebellion’ (RTÉ), ‘Red Rock’ (Virgin Media), and ‘Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope’ (RTÉ). He has also appeared in a number of films including ‘Black 47’ (dir. Lance Daly), ‘The Secret Scripture’ (dir. Jim Sheridan), and ‘Of Gods and Warriors’ (dir. David L.G. Hughes).

O’Fuarain joins the previously announced Jodie Turner-Smith (‘Nightflyers’, ‘The Last Ship’) who takes the role of Éile; an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.

Declan de Barra (‘The Originals, ‘The Witcher’) will act as Executive Producer and Showrunner and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (‘The Witcher’ showrunner) will act as Executive Producer. Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as creative consultant on the series. Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films will all serve as executive producers.

No news yet on when The Witcher: Blood Origin will premiere, but it will be a six-part, live-action, limited series when it does land. We’ll keep you posted when we have more information.
