‘Young Sheldon’ Renewed For 3 More Seasons At CBS

Young Sheldon is set to become not quite so young Sheldon, as CBS renews the comedy for 3 more seasons, guaranteeing it will run for at least 7 seasons in total.

The comedy follows nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) as he struggles with growing up in East Texas. Possessing a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are kings. And, while the vulnerable, gifted and naive Sheldon deals with the world, his family must find a way to deal with him.

“Under Chuck Lorre’s and Steve Molaro’s deft leadership, this superb cast and gifted writers have truly brought these wonderful characters to life,” commented Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “Young Sheldon dominates the broadcast comedy landscape by over +2.5 million viewers and is the lynchpin of CBS’ top-rated Thursday comedy lineup. The humor, warmth and heart exuded by the Cooper family is an undeniable hook for the millions of fans who tune in each week. We’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers.”

Alongside Armitage, the series stars Zoe Perry as Sheldon’s mother, Mary (Perry also being the real-life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who played Mary in the main series.) Lance Barber stars as father George, whilst Montana Jordan plays older brother Georgie, and Raegan Revord rounds out the family as twin sister Missy.

The renewal isn’t much of a suprise, given the series is the USA’s most-watched comedy, averaging over 9.6 million viewers each week across all seasons. The 4th Season, which is currently airing on CBS is averaging just over a 0.8 demo rating and 7.3 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day numbers). That is actually down from the previous season, but is still ranking as the number one comedy across all US tv networks.

Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak are the executive producers for Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc., in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Young Sheldon‘ airs on E4 in the UK (and no, we don’t have a premiere date for Season 4 yet, but we’ll let you know when we do.)
