Marvel Lands Chinaka Hodge As Head Writer For ‘Ironheart’

Marvel has found someone to pen their upcoming Ironheart series, as ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘Amazing Stories’ scribe Chinaka Hodge lands the role of lead writer.

Last December, during the Disney Investor Day announcements, the “Mouse House” revealed ‘Marvel’s Ironheart’ would be one of the new shows coming to the Disney+ line up. The series stars Dominique Thorne (‘If Beale Street Could Talk’, ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’) as Riri Williams, a genius young inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armour since Iron Man.

According to Variety, who broke the news, Chinaka Hodge is set to lead the writer’s room for the series. Her previous work includes TNT’s superb ‘Snowpiercer’ and the Apple TV+ anthology Amazing Stories’. She is a poet, educator, playwright and screenwriter, whose poetry and work with youth organisations, has garnered her national recognition in the USA. She is also a founding member of the hip hop triumvirate The Getback, along with ‘Snowpiercer’ & ‘Hamilton’ star Daveed Diggs, and actor/writer Rafael Casal (‘The Good Lord Bird’, ‘Blindspotting’).

The character of Riri Williams was first introduced in the comic books back in 2016 by writers Brian Michael Bendis, and artist Mike Deodato. A genius 15-year-old engineering student, she attends MIT, and designs a suit of armor similar Iron Man by using material stolen from campus. Tony Stark (who is still alive in the comic book at this point) hears of her accomplishment, and gives her his seal of approval after she prevents two inmates from escaping the New Mexico State Penitentiary.

‘Ironheart’ is one of a long list of upcoming Marvel TV shows coming to Disney+. Next up we have ‘Loki’, which lands Friday, 11th June 2021, which is then followed by the animated ‘What If…?’ series in Summer 2021, ‘Ms. Marvel’ in late 2021, and ‘Hawkeye’, also planned for late 2021. After that, we have ‘She-Hulk’, ‘Moon Knight’, ‘Secret Invasion’, ‘Ironheart’, ‘Armor Wars’, and the much aticipated (at least here at Geektown!) ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’.

We don’t know exactly when Ironheart will land on Disney+, but it’ll be at least 2022, if not later. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
