Marvel’s ‘Loki’ To Premiere A Few Days Earlier Than Expected On Disney+!

by Dave Elliott

Well, this was a nice surprise… But then, what else would you expect from the God of Mischief! Marvel’s Loki series will be premiering a few days earlier than previously announced, as Disney+ realises that there are more days in a week than just Fridays!

‘Loki’ features the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. For those of you a little confused by that (given the… erm… “state”… Loki was left in during his MCU run), this is following that alt-version we saw absconding with the Tesseract in ‘Endgame’.

So, this is a “Loki variant” from “The Avengers” movie era, meaning way more “God of Mischief” than the main-timeline version who softened a bit after the events of the later ‘Thor’ movies. This version finds himself a fish-out-of-water when he lands in a world of trouble with the bureaucratic TVA (Time Variance Authority)…

In the announcement above, Tom Hiddleston decrees that “Wednesdays are the new Fridays”, and who are we to argue with a god… (even if he is a “puny god”…). That means the series will debut on Wednesday, 9th of June 2021, shifted a few days earlier than the previously announced 11th June. New episodes will also be released the following Wednesdays.

If you’ve been listening to Geektown Radio over the past few months, you’ll know the obsession by all the streaming services to drop all their new content on a Friday has been something we have been complaining about, so this switch is great news! It remains to be seen if they will continue this tread with other new shows, or if this is just a one-off.

‘Loki’ sees Tom Hiddleston return as the title character, and joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. The six-episode series is directed by Kate Herron (‘Sex Education’, ‘Five by Five’) and Michael Waldron (‘Heels’, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’) is head writer.

Loki‘ Season 1 now premieres Wednesday, 9th of June 2021 on Disney+ in the UK and worldwide.
