‘Prodigal Son’ Season 2 Gets June UK Premiere Date On Sky One

Prodigal Son returns to the UK, as Sky One sets a June premiere date for the Michael Sheen & Tom Payne serial killer drama.

From Emmy Award-nominated executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter (‘Riverdale’, ‘The Flash’) and writers Chris Fedak (‘Deception’, ‘Chuck’) and Sam Sklaver (‘Deception’, ‘Bored to Death’), the series is a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone.

Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne, ‘The Walking Dead’) has a gift. He knows how killers think, how their minds work. Why? Back in the 1990s, his father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen, ‘Masters of Sex’, ‘Frost/Nixon’), was one of the best, a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon”. That’s why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. Now Bright using his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve their most puzzling murders. Bright’s team, led by his longtime mentor, NYPD Lieutenant Gil Arroyo (Lou Diamond Phillips), includes Detectives Dani Powell (Aurora Perrineau), JT TARMEL (Frank Harts) and medical examiner Dr. Edrisa Tanaka (Keiko Agena).

Season 2 picks up with Bright’s personal life in disarray after the shocking actions of his sister, Ainsley (Halston Sage), in the Season One finale. Now, he must “take care” of her and protect his mother, Jessica Whitly (Bellamy Young), from a secret that could tear the family apart all over again. Further complicating matters, Martin seeks to deepen his relationship with Bright, his “prodigal son,” but forging this bond leads to shocking twists and revelations.

The second season will also have a couple of new additions to the cast. Starring opposite fellow Welsh actor Sheen, Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will appear in the latter half of the season as Dr. Vivian Capshaw, Claremont Psychiatric’s resident MD. Dr. Martin Whitly is assigned to infirmary duty, and Dr. Capshaw revels in tasking “The Surgeon” to clean bedpans and mop the floor. But as Martin proves valuable in treating patients, Capshaw begins to see him in a new light… which is not a good thing.

Also joining the show is Alan Cumming (‘The Good Wife’, ‘Instinct’) who appear in two episodes as Simon Hoxley, a supremely confident and cocky Europol agent known as “The MindSleuth” (which also happens to be the title of his autobiography). Considered one of the most celebrated criminal profilers in the world, he travels to New York to solve a murder… which puts Malcolm Bright in his crosshairs…

The series is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment. Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver created the series, and are executive producers, showrunners and writers on the show. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter also serve as executive producers.

Prodigal Son‘ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 9th June 2021 at 10pm on Sky One (some of you may have seen Sky running ads saying 2nd June, but they are now incorrect due to ‘SEAL Team’ getting pushed back by a week at the last minute).
