Disney+ UK Announces ‘The Wonder Years’, ‘Pam & Tommy’, ‘The Big Leap’, ‘Queens’ & More Coming To STAR

Disney+ UK has announced an additional stack of new shows which are set to premiere on the STAR side of the streaming service over the coming months. They include the reboot of The Wonder Years, the Pam & Tommy limited series, dance dramedy The Big Leap, hip-hop comedy Queens, and a load more! Here is the list of recently announced additions.

The Wonder Years

Written by Saladin Patterson (‘Dave’, ‘Psych’, ‘The Big Bang Theory’) and directed by original star Fred Savage, ‘The Wonder Years’ focuses on the Williamses, a Black middle-class family in the late 1960s Alabama, made sure it was the Wonder Years for them too. The story centres around Dean (Elisha “EJ” Williams), an inquisitive and hopeful 12-year-old kid coming of age in a turbulent time.

Don Cheadle narrates the series as adult Dean Williams, with Elisha “EJ” Williams as the young Dean, and Dule? Hill as his father Bill Williams. Saycon Sengbloh plays the mother, Lillian Williams, with Laura Kariuki as Dean’s sister, Kim Williams. The series also stars Julian Lerner as Brad Hitman, Amari O’Neil as Cory Long and Milan Ray as Keisa Clemmons.

Pam & Tommy

‘Pam & Tommy’ is a limited series based on the true story behind the release of the first-ever viral video in history… the sex tape of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. The series brings a new perspective to the scandal that changed the course of celebrity culture.

Lily James and Sebastian Stan take the lead roles as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. The drama also stars Seth Rogen as Rand Gauthier, Nick Offerman as Uncle Miltie and Taylor Schilling as Erica Gauthier.

The Big Leap

Inspired by the UK series reality series ‘Big Ballet’, this contemporary dramedy is a tale about second chances, chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours. The show revolves around a group of diverse underdogs from all different walks of life who compete to be part of a competition reality series that is putting on a modern, hip remake of Swan Lake. What they lack in the traditional dancer body type, they make up for with their edge, wit and desire to reimagine an iconic story to fit their own mould.

The series stars Piper Perabo, Scott Foley, Teri Polo, Mallory Jansen, Ser’Darius Blain, Kevin Daniels, Simone Recasner, Anna Grace Barlow, Jon Rudnitsky, Raymond Cham Jr.

Reservation Dogs

‘Reservation Dogs’ is a new half-hour comedy, a coming-of-age story about four Native American teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma who spend their days committing crimes… and fighting it.

The series co-created by Sterlin Harjo, a Native American who also directed the pilot episode, and Academy Award-winner Taika Waititi (‘JoJo Rabbit’, ‘What We Do in the Shadows’). The series stars D’Pharoah Woon-A-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Paulina Alexis and Lane Factor. Reservation Dogs is executive produced by Sterlin Harjo, Taika Waititi and Garrett Basch.

Queens

‘Queens’ follows four estranged and out-of-touch women in their 40s reunite, who have a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had as the “Nasty Bitches” – their ’90s group that made them legends in the hip-hop world.

The series stars Eve as Brianna aka Professor Sex, Naturi Naughton as Jill aka Da Thrill, Nadine Velazquez as Valeria aka Butter Pecan, Taylor Selé as Eric Jones, Pepi Sonuga as Lil Muffin and Brandy as Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics.

Pistol

Anchored by Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, the series offers a fascinating new perspective on one of rock’s greatest ever stories. ‘Pistol’ moves from West London’s council estates, to Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s notorious Kings Road SEX shop, to the international controversy that came with the release of Never Mind the Bollocks, which is frequently listed as one of the most influential albums of all time.

Created and exec produced by Craig Pearce (‘Moulin Rouge!’, ‘Will’), Pearce wrote the drama alongside author/screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce (‘Doctor Who’, ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’). Academy Award-winner Danny Boyle (‘Trainspotting’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ’28 Days Later’) directs and exec produces the project.

Untitled BJ Novak Series

From BJ Novak, actor and award-winning writer of ‘The Office (US)’, comes a half-hour anthological television series that uses the boldest issues of our times as a jumping-off point to tell singular, character-driven stories about the world we live in today. The series will feature a different cast each episode.

The first episode stars Lucas Hedges, Kaitlyn Dever, O’Shea Jackson Jr., George Wallace, Ed Asner, Brendan Francis Scannell, among others. The second episode stars Jon Bernthal, Boyd Holbrook, Amy Landecker, Beau Bridges, and more. Novak serves as executive producer and the series is produced by FX Productions.

Welcome to Wrexham

‘Welcome to Wrexham’ is a docuseries tracking the dreams and people of Wrexham, as two Hollywood stars take ownership of the town’s historic yet struggling football club.

In 2020, Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) teamed up to purchase the team in the hopes of turning the club into an underdog story the whole world could root for. The worry? Rob and Ryan have no experience in football or working with each other. That said, they are serious about their investment in Wrexham, improving the club and doing right by the townspeople.

These latest announcements join the already extensive list of shows on Disney+ and STAR, along with the previously announced upcoming content, including The Old Man‘, American Horror Stories, Only Murders In The Building, The Dropout, Dopesick and Y: The Last Man‘.
