Dominic Monaghan To Star In AMC Utopian Sci-fi Drama ‘Moonhaven’

Former hobbit and star of ‘Lost’ Dominic Monaghan is heading to the Moon, as he lands a leading role in AMC’s upcoming utopian sci-fi drama Moonhaven.

The suspense thriller focuses on Bella Sway, a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler 100 years in the future who finds herself accused of a crime and marooned on Moonhaven, a utopian community set on a 500 square mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon to find solutions to the problems that will soon end civilization on Mother Earth.

A sceptic in Paradise, Bella is sucked into a conspiracy to gain control of the artificial intelligence responsible for Moonhaven’s miracles and teams with a local detective to stop the forces that want to destroy Earth’s last hope before they are destroyed themselves.

Dominic Monaghan is set to play Paul Sarno, a detective on the Moon tasked with solving the problems of Earth.

Monaghan is probably best known for his role as the hobbit Merry in ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ trilogy of movies and playing Charlie Pace in hit tv series ‘Lost’. He has since starred in shows such as ‘Flashforward’, ‘The Unknown’, ‘100 Code’, and ‘Bite Club’, along with popping up in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ and the unique tv-series/video game ‘Quantum Break’.

‘Moonhaven’ is created by Peter Ocko (‘Black Sails’, ‘Elementary’, ‘Pushing Daisies’), who will also serve as showrunner. The series is produced by AMC Studios and will debut in 2022 on AMC and AMC+ in the USA. Whilst we do have an AMC channel in the UK, it is often the case they sell their shows to other networks over here, so there is no telling where this may show up.

“What so intrigued us about ‘Moonhaven’ is that it is a suspense thriller set a century in the future that, at its heart, could not be more relevant today,” commented Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios when the series was announced back in May. “Peter and his writing team have constructed some unforgettable characters and a story we know will captivate viewers and probe complex and deeply emotional issues that are top of mind today and have the potential to threaten existence on the only planet we have ever called home.”

Moonhaven does not currently have a UK broadcaster, however, if you want to keep track of this show you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
