‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’ Anime Series Gets Trailer, Premiering August On Netflix

by Dave Elliott

Whilst we wait until December for ‘The Witcher’ Season 2, Netflix have got the limited anime series ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’ coming this August to help tide you over.

Before Geralt, there was his mentor Vesemir – a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin. But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past.

The series voice cast includes Theo James (‘Sanditon’, ‘Castlevania’) as Vesemir, Lara Pulver (‘The Alienist’, ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’) as Tetra, Graham McTavish (‘The Witcher’, ‘Outlander’) as Deglan, and Mary McDonnell (‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Major Crimes’) as Lady Zerbst.

This series should serve as a nice introduction to Vesemir, who is set to show up in Season 2 of ‘The Witcher’ in live-action. However, that version will be played by ‘Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia, as he is a much older man at that point. Graham McTavish is also set to appear in the second season of the main show, but will be playing Redania spymaster Dijkstra, a different character to the one he voices here in the anime.

‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’ is written and produced by Beau DeMayo and co-produced by ‘The Witcher’ Showrunner and Executive Producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Studio Mir’s Kwang Il Han who is also directing.

‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’ premieres Monday, 23rd August 2021 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
