Roku Channel Renews ‘Most Dangerous Game’ With Christoph Waltz Returning

Quibi’s downfall is very much The Roku Channel’s gain, as they announce a 2nd Season of short-form drama Most Dangerous Game, with Christoph Waltz set to return.

For those of you who missed the first season (which I suspect is most of you as it was on failed streaming service Quibi) starred Liam Hemsworth as Dodge, a Detroit everyman up to his eyeballs in debt, who is desperate to secure the financial future of his wife and unborn child before he succumbs to a terminal illness. A meeting the mysterious businessman (Waltz) presents him with the chance to do just that. The job?… To participate in a 24-hour “game” across the city, in which he’ll be hunted for sport by a group of wealthy (and mostly psychotic) killers!

The second season will see Waltz reprise his role as Miles, the mysterious CEO of The Tiro Fund, as he entices a new person to be the prey. This time, ‘The Umbrella Academy’s David Castañeda steps into the challenge, as Victor Suero, a down on his luck fighter who springs into action to protect his sister after learning she’s in trouble. He’ll make a fortune if he survives. Out of love for his sister, he’s determined to live.

“When I read the script I couldn’t sleep for a few days. Thinking of a man given the opportunity of making money to provide for his sister – it reminded me of my family, their struggle and ingenuity in necessity,” Castañeda commented. “This story will connect with them and hopefully many more. Also, Christoph Waltz is the man. I can’t wait to jump on this opportunity with Roku and bring the streamers along for a thrilling ride.”

Based on a classic short story by Richard Connell, the series will see creator Nick Santora (‘Prison Break’, ‘Scorpion’, ‘Lie to Me’, ‘The Fugitive’) returns as writer and executive producer.

This marks the second show renewed by Roku following their acquisition of Quibi’s back-catalogue of shows after the streaming service collapsed last year just 7 months after its launch. They previously renewed fellow Quibi rescue ‘Die Hart’, a comedy starring Kevin Hart, back in June.

The issue for Quibi was never the content, but the service itself. Many of their shows picked up Emmy nods, including ‘Most Dangerous Game’, which was nominated for Short Form Comedy or Drama Series and Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series (for Waltz).

For those of you unaware of The Roku Channel, there is a chance you have access to it without realising. If you have a Roku streaming device it is obviously on there. However, it is also available under the apps on Sky Q, NOW streaming sticks/boxes, Amazon Fire TV sticks, and some Smart TVs. It’s ad-supported but otherwise completely free. Along with a lot of the short-form Quibi series, the channel also has a huge back catalogue of older movies and tv series to browse through, so it’s definitely worth a look!

Most Dangerous Game‘ Season 1 can be found right now on The Roku Channel.
