After a bit of a break due to COVID, ‘Billions‘ will return for Season 5 part 2 this September in the UK Sky Atlantic has announced.
‘Billions’ stars Lewis and Giamatti in a duo of tour-de-force performances as shady hedge fund manager Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod and equally shady District U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades. The first few seasons have seen Axe and Rhoades going head-to-head as they try to bring each other down, whilst the 4th Season twisted that dynamic and saw the duo working together against their common enemies. However, the 5th Season saw that truce over, as Axe and Chuck’s vicious rivalry became reignited, while new enemies rise and take aim.
In the second half of season five, the presence of powerful billionaire Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) sends ripples through Axe Capital and gives Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) a potential new weapon in his fight against Bobby Axelrod (Lewis). Alliances form, get ripped apart and form anew, and everyone from Taylor (Asia Kate Dillon) to Wendy (Maggie Siff) gets roped into the conflict, which comes very close to destroying all they hold dear.
In addition to Cory Stoll, the other new addition to the cast this year is Golden Globe winner Julianna Margulies (‘The Good Wife’) who plays Catherine Brant, an Ivy League sociology professor and bestselling author. They join the returning cast of Lewis, Giamatti, Siff, Dillon, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Kelly AuCoin and Jeffrey DeMunn. Janeane Garofalo will guest star as Winslow, the hip owner of a legal cannabis corp. Stoll, who was a recurring character in Season 5, will return as a series regular in the 6th Season next year.
The series is created and executive produced by showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The series was also created by Andrew Ross Sorkin.
‘Billions‘ Season 5b premieres Wednesday, 8th September 2021 at 9pm on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK. The series airs Sunday, September 5 at 9 PM ET/PT on Showtime in the USA.
