‘The Flash’ Season 8 To Kick Off With 5-Part ‘Armageddon’ Event

The Flash is set to bring together heroes and villains from across the Arrowverse in its 8th Season with a 5-part “crossover-style” but NOT a crossover event The CW has announced.

The “Armageddon” event will kick off Season 8 and sees a powerful alien threat arrive on Earth under mysterious circumstances. Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris (Candice Patton) and the rest of Team Flash are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world, but with time running out, and the fate of humanity at stake, Flash and his companions will also need to enlist the help of some old friends if the forces of good are to prevail.

Those “old friends” will include Brandon Routh returning as Ray Palmer aka The Atom, Javicia Leslie as Batwoman, Cress Williams as Black Lightning, Chyler Leigh as Sentinel, Kat McNamara as Mia Queen and, interestingly, Osric Chau as Ryan Choi. This does make me wonder if we’re going to get to see a passing of the torch with Choi taking up the Atom suit as he did in the comic books.

There are also going to be some villains returning, as Tom Cavanagh reprises his role as Eobard Thawne aka Reverse-Flash, and Neal McDonough will be back as Damien Darhk. Whether Cavanagh will end up pulling double duties as Harrison Wells remains to be seen.

This seems like a sensible way to allow a big event this year, without causing too much disruption to the shooting schedules of the Arrowverse shows. One of the issues they’d previously had was that the crossover events were a massive headache for all involved to organise. By containing it all within ‘The Flash’, and (with the exception of Leslie and Leigh) utilising characters who are no longer regulars on other series, it massively reduces those problems and creates a “crossover feel”, without it being a full crossover.

The Flash Season 7 is currently airing on Sky One (and soon Sky Max) in the UK. We don’t know exactly when Season 8 will land here, but given the series doesn’t kick off on The CW until November 16, 2021, in the USA, there is a fair chance it won’t land here until early 2022. However, if you want to track this, or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
