‘Taskmaster’ Season 12 Gets Sept Premiere Date On Channel 4

Taskmaster is back as Channel 4 sets a September UK premiere date for Season 12 of the beloved BAFTA-winning comedy game show.

Greg Davies returns as the incomparable and all-powerful Taskmaster, alongside series creator, loyal lickspittle and tiny administrative wonk, Alex Horne, scoring the efforts of five top comedians as they tackle perplexing and extraordinary challenges in the name of critically acclaimed entertainment.

As this is a new season, there are five new brave souls desperate to display Greg’s regal golden head on their mantelpiece. This year’s crop includes Alan Davies, Desiree Burch, Guz Khan, Morgana Robinson and Victoria Coren Mitchell. This captivating quintet will attempt numerous seemingly pointless tasks that test their ingenuity, dexterity and calmness under extreme pressure. Whoever does best at slathering stuff on space hoppers, hurling household appliances and digging through doggy bags will become the 12th Taskmaster champion and, more importantly, the apple of the Taskmaster’s eye.

Some of the team have been getting some hints of previous contestants. “I did ask a couple of people, mainly David Baddiel, who is a bit like me in that intellectually, he’s fine,” commented Victoria Coren Mitchell. “He can cope with getting his sentences out but he wasn’t necessarily brilliant at everything on the show, much as I enjoyed his performance. He’s a close friend and I asked him, ‘Was it humiliating?’ and he said, ‘No, it was incredibly good fun, and everyone’s lovely. You’ll enjoy it.’ He was right, and they were, and I did.”

It also looks like Alan Davies won’t be breaking any speed records, commenting “Greg made a lot of jokes about my timekeeping: he has an admirable comic instinct that sniffs out where the comedy is. On one task I thought I’d done it quickly but I was the slowest by miles. On another, when Alex said, ‘It’s against the clock,’ the crew actually laughed.”

In the opening episode, Greg and Alex welcome the five fresh competitors desperate to lay their sticky mitts on Greg’s coveted golden head-trophy with tasks featuring creepers, catapults and one (fake) cactus.

The series is exec produced by Alex Horne, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, Andy Devonshire, James Taylor, and Jon Thoday, with Andy Cartwright as series producer. ‘Taskmaster’ is produced by Avalon.

Taskmaster‘ Season 12 premieres Thursday, 23rd September 2021 at 9pm on Channel 4.
