Top Online Games To Be Made Into Movies

For the past few years, consumers have been served with so-called video games movies. Of course, fans would like to see the games they are familiar with on the big screen. They were hoping and imagining the characters and plot of the story would be told accordingly.

Sadly, the fact told us otherwise. Movies based on video games have been terrible lately from casts totally different from the game or story with absurd plot and editing. But moviemakers still got many ideas, waiting to be introduced once again to cinema lovers and gamers alike.

Despite the failure of movies or adaptations based on video games, what is the reason behind the rapid movie production that is still based on video game culture?

Why Are Video Games Turning Into Movies?

In 2016, four out of five video game movie adaptions were turned into blunders. It’sIt’s normal for us to think about why companies are still pursuing these ideas.

The answer, inevitably, would-be business. There are a lot of Hollywood franchises that can be milked until they finally run out of value. Unless they can’t be able to be used anymore, movie creators will squish until the last drop. Some examples are Transformers and Ice Age. While some of us might agree that the franchise should end on the second or third movies, the milking continues.

Let us see the numbers. The transformer is a wonderful movie, at least for the first one. The initial movie was breathtaking, and it was beyond expectations. No wonder people felt like Hollywood could achieve anything. At least that were people thinking about back then. Now, look at the Transformers: The Last Knight.

With a budget of around $217 million, the movie only grossed $125 million. They were fortunately saved by a massive grossing of $392.4 million in other fields.

With the popularity of video games, surely many companies want to take a sip of success. In the business world, this is entirely normal and predictable. Seeing the nature of video games, none of them was actually planned to be shown on the big screen. But there are always opportunities.

When a video game already has a large player base, it’s normal to think potential viewers are waiting to be put into an exciting journey born out of a creative plot and consistent storyline.

The same goes for online games. If you connect them to the world of cinema, it’s hard to find movies based on online games. But, there are some worth mentioning that we want to explain thoroughly below:

1. Mortal Kombat (2021)

If you’re quite familiar with Mortal Kombat, you know it’s not just about fighting. Mortal Kombat has successfully created entertainment when fighting seems to be a gimmick. It’sIt’s goofy and filled with cheesy action flick that no one couldn’t take seriously. The movie presented in 1995 clearly showed how capable the movie maker is in creating a balance between martial arts movies and video games.

Now in 2021, the plot becomes more serious. Watching Mortal Kombat is sure a fun ride, even when it’s a messy one. But along the way, it looked a bit blurry after a while. Mortal Kombat seemed afraid to show brutal fatality but could not come up as a homage to the past. Somehow it lost the satisfying feeling fans were hoping for.

Despite the story itself became less satisfying, viewers can get another kind of satisfaction thanks to the fighting scene. The fighting choreography is done wonderfully to be as close to the game as possible. It has a lot of conflicts that make it enjoyable. Plus, fans would notice some easter eggs, fatalities, and catchphrases boldly mentioned throughout the movie. While all seems promising, it still looks out of place if you still combine it with the story.

Within the first 10 minutes, viewers will be given a plot introducing the two main characters, Sub Zero and Scorpion. You can see some initial actions here and the motivation that reeled viewers into the main plot.

The Mortal Kombat game has long been known to be a fun online game where you can fight with other players brutally. With the upcoming Mortal Kombat II Ultimate that promised many features, fans can’t really wait.

Despite the movie being enjoyable to watch, some of us might experience a troubling issue related to streaming. Whether it’s a slow connection or geo-restrictions, it’s all quite annoying.

One easiest solution for this is by having a VPN service. ExpressVPN has been known to be one of the options for the best service you can get. If you want to dig deeper into this, you can see the extensive review on ExpressVPN here.

2. Warcraft

Warcraft is the perfect example of how video games based movies should be. It’sIt’s hard creating a movie based on a video game that has been popular for more than a decade. With the ten years of development, Warcraft comes with a complicated plot that the player may be familiar with.

The movie has two goals here that are not an easy thing to do. Warcraft is trying to create another large franchise for Universal. Meanwhile, it has to meet the specific “requirements” for hardcore fans without being altogether complex and consuming for the non-players.

Similar to the game, the movie focuses on the world of Azeroth, a realm where humans, dwarves, and elves live together facing the brute orc warriors invasion. The setting and ideas are taken directly from the 2004 MMORPG World of Warcraft, with a deeper plot and story. The orcs and humans in the movie have separated stories to draw sympathies from both sides.

3. Monster Hunter Legend of Guild

Monster Hunter World was a bombing multiplayer game back in 2018. By creating a simpler version of monster hunting, was successfully netting millions of new players and veterans alike. Monster Hunter Legend of Guild tells the story of Aiden, which is one of the characters in an ace team highly mentioned in Monster Hunter 4.

The story starts with Aiden’s journey similar to what new players have been through—fighting smaller monsters and preparing to hunt the bigger ones. A simple velociprey hunt turns into something horrible when Aiden faces Velocidrome, the species’ alpha. Before the Velocidrome could finish Aiden off, another veteran hunter swoops in and tackle the problem with ease. A feeling most of us probably have experienced before.

The rest of the story follows Aiden and Julius, the ace captain of the team. From the day when they hunted Velocidrome, they’ve now been tasked with a much-complicated matter of hunting Teostra, the fire king that’s threatening the village. As the story progresses, we can see Aiden growing into a more prepared hunter, the slayer of beasts.
